Convert dog years to human equivalent age
Your dog's human age equivalent is:
Your dog is in the adult stage of life in human terms.
Converting dog years to human years isn't as simple as the old myth of "multiply by 7." Dogs age more rapidly during their first two years of life and then aging slows down afterward. Furthermore, different sized breeds age at different rates.
Small dogs tend to live longer and age more slowly after their initial rapid growth. They may not be considered "seniors" until 10-12 years.
Medium-sized dogs have a moderate aging pattern and typically reach senior status around 8-9 years of age.
Larger dogs age faster after maturity and often have shorter lifespans. They may be considered seniors by 6-7 years.
Giant breed dogs have the shortest lifespans and most rapid aging. They're often considered seniors by 5-6 years of age.
This calculator uses a more accurate method based on research published in the journal Cell Systems, taking into account that dogs develop quickly in their first years, then more slowly afterward. Additionally, it factors in the different aging rates of various breed sizes.
The first year of a dog's life is equivalent to about 15 human years, the second year adds 9 more human years, and each additional year is approximately 4-5 human years (with variations by size).
Note: This calculator provides an estimate. Individual dogs may age differently based on genetics, health, and environment.
